COMPOST
DAIRY COMPOST
Back by popular demand.
Growsource’s dairy compost has a broad range of the nutrients your plants need in a safe, usable form, ready to make lush green growth happen.
Applying our dairy compost to your soil will introduce the beneficial microorganisms that are essential for healthy soil. The bioassay performed on Growsource’s Dairy Compost came back with a 100% germination rate and showed zero contaminants present.
For new flower beds or vegetable gardens, till in 1-4 inches of compost to a depth of 4-8 inches. How deep you till depends on the amount that you apply. You will need to till to a depth at least double of the amount applied.
For mulching existing beds, 3-4 inches is great. You need to apply a minimum of 3” to prevent weeds from growing up through the compost.
Mulching existing gardens and flower beds is beneficial for water retention. During the summer, much of the water we apply is lost through evaporation if nothing is used as a vapor barrier. An added benefit of mulching on top, aside from retaining moisture, is the nutrients are brought down slowly to the root zone carried by the water filtering through the compost.
Our nutrient tests show that there is a need for a small amount of nitrogen to be added to attain the best results with our compost.
MAGIC MULCH
Growsource’s Magic Mulch is made using a rich blend of our dairy compost and fine bark. It is black in color and really makes your garden flower colors pop. It will suppress weeds while promoting healthy plant growth and help retain water. Our Magic Mulch is screened to a fine finish to provide that black, rich finish you are looking for in your flower beds.
How much Magic Mulch will you need? For mulching existing flower beds, a 2-4 inch layer is recommended. You need a minimum of 3 inches for weed suppression.
